Your GLSEN Arizona Inclusive Policy Postcard 8.26.2024

Greetings GLSENeer,

Amanda Gorman, one of America’s amazing poets, performed one of her newest works during the recent convention in Chicago. Known for her amazing performance at President Biden’s inauguration in 2021, her poetic works reach ears and hearts much differently than stump speeches and political ads.

From “This Sacred Scene”

We are one family regardless of religion, class, or color

for what defines a patriot is not just our love of liberty, but our

love for one another.

This is loud in our country's call because while we all love

freedom, it is love that frees us all.

Empathy emancipates, making us greater than hate or vanity.

That is the American promise, powerful and pure.

Divided we cannot endure but united we can endeavor to

humanize our democracy and endear democracy to humanity.

YOUR VOTE MATTERS! Register to vote here in upcoming elections!

Deadline to mail your ballot back for the 2024 Primary Election is Jul 18, 2024. Primary Election Day is Jul 30, 2024.

LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Elections Matter More Than Ever

Elections matter. Georgia U.S. Sen. Warnock reminded us that our vote is like a prayer for the kind of world we want to live in and the results of this election will impact queer lives every day: from bodily autonomy to seek healthcare to protections from discrimination, the stakes are high for LGBTQIA2S+ people and our allies. Now more than ever, it’s critical to elect candidates who won’t play politics with young queer lives.

Volunteering for local campaigns is a form of civic engagement and community education. We encourage you to research candidates and campaigns, and if you’re able, provide grassroots energy to their campaigns.

WHAT YOU CAN DO?

It’s critical that if you are able to vote - make sure you’re registered - and vote! There's still more you can do: Talk to your parents. Call your aunt. Talk to your people. Get them registered and tell them that when LGBTQ+ supportive candidates are elected, we can hold them accountable to vote our values. Empathic democracy is the American promise.

UPCOMING DEADLINES: The voter registration deadline is October 7 and early voting starts October 9, 2024. To request a mail-in ballot before Oct. 25, contact your county recorder. The last day to mail in ballots is Oct. 29 - after that, they must be dropped off at a vote center or polling location.
