Greetings GLSENeer,
As you may remember, last week, we shared that the Arizona House passed SB 1511, a bill that perpetuates myths and misinformation about gender affirming care. The House only transmitted the bill to the Governor this past Wednesday.
This week we call on Governor Hobbs to veto SB1511 and offer a up round of local and national news!
LEGISLATIVE SESSION
THE HOUSE TRANSMITTED SB1511 TO GOVERNOR HOBBS
As a principle, GLSEN Arizona believes every person should be able to access the healthcare they need. Unfortunately, SB1511 has the opposite intent, perpetuating myths that gender affirming care is too easily accessed and that there are significant numbers of people seeking to medically detransition.
A recent op/ed in the Arizona Capitol Times penned by Mesa, Arizona Mother and transgender activist Christiana Hammond also highlights how SB 1511 is a bad faith, misleading piece of legislation. Additionally, several national anti-transgender organizations are filling Governor Hobbs’ inbox and voicemail with misinformation about gender affirming care and the transgender experience.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
GLSEN Arizona, as a member of the LGBTQ+ Working Group, has requested Governor Hobbs to veto this bill – and we need your support. Can you call her office now at 602-542- 4331 and respectfully ask her to veto SB 1511?
WHAT’S NEXT?
Rumor has it that the Legislature is “getting close” to a budget resolution. We’re working to raise awareness about voter registration and upcoming voter education opportunities . Stay tuned and watch for more engagement information in the coming weeks!
